Overview
Since 1991, Plan International Tanzania has been actively operating in Tanzania, driven by a strong will to help underprivileged children and youth—especially young girls. Our main goal is to provide an environment that enables girls to realise their full potential, guaranteeing their physical and mental health and ensuring they grow up equipped to influence their destiny. Our mission is to guarantee that every female can access secure, high-quality, gender-responsive education and thereby advance gender equality. By means of collaborations and evidence-based strategies, we endeavour to bring about constructive changes in the lives of young people and children all around Tanzania.
Funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC), one of our main projects, Keeping Adolescent Girls in School (KAGS) is a five-year endeavour. With an especially keen eye towards basic and lower secondary school education, the project seeks to remove the obstacles preventing teenage girls from realising their right to education. The project’s ultimate aim is to guarantee that teenage girls understand their entitlement to safe, high-quality, gender-sensitive education. This will be accomplished by means of a rights-based, gender-transformative strategy that addresses supply- and demand-side obstacles, thus strengthening local government and improving the connections between systems of education, health, and child protection.
