TANROADS Job Vacancies – January 2025
The Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) is tasked with the responsibility of maintaining and developing the Trunk and Regional Roads Network in Tanzania Mainland. It is also in charge of conducting axle load control operations using weighbridge scales.
The Regional Manager of TANROADS Songwe, on behalf of the Chief Executive of TANROADS, is looking for suitably qualified and competent Tanzanians to fill vacant posts available for the project of upgrading the Isongole II-Kasumulu-Ipyana-Katumba, Songwe Regional Road (114.3 KM), including the Ndembo-Isoko spur road (5.914 KM) and Muungano-Ipyana Section (0.658 KM) to Bitumen Standard Lot 1: Isongole II Ndembo Section (46.5 KM), including Ndembo-Isoko Spur road (5.914 KM). TANROADS intends to recruit qualified and competent staff for specified contracts on the aforementioned projects in the following fields.

- Resident Engineer – 1 Post
- Entry Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution. Must be registered with ERB as a professional engineer and have a current practicing certificate. A postgraduate qualification in civil engineering is an added advantage.
- At least 10 years of cumulative working experience in road and bridge construction designs, supervision, and contract management/administration under FIDIC Conditions of Contract.
- Must have served as a resident engineer or in an equivalent capacity in at least three (3) road construction projects of similar nature in the last 10 years.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Head the site staff and be responsible for all technical and administrative aspects on site.
- Supervise the contractor on-site and manage work plans for the project.
- Manage quality control, project contracts, and prepare monthly progress reports.
- Process contractor invoices and facilitate payments.
- Prepare and attend regular site meetings, preparing minutes and monitoring the implementation of social and environmental impact mitigation measures.
- Keep updated records, including reports, work diaries, correspondences, instructions to contractors, test records, measurement and quantity calculations, payment records, and all other relevant documents.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the project manager (PM).
- Entry Qualifications:
- Materials Engineer – 1 Post
- Entry Qualifications:
- Must be a Tanzanian citizen with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent qualifications from a recognised institution. Must be registered with ERB as a professional engineer and have a current practicing license.
- A postgraduate qualification in geotechnical/pavement engineering is an added advantage.
- At least 7 years of working experience in related supervision of roads and bridges construction, materials testing, soils investigations, and pavement constructions.
- Must have served in a similar capacity in at least two (2) projects of similar nature in the past 7 years.
- Fluency in written and spoken Swahili and English is mandatory.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise the laboratory and ensure specifications are strictly applied.
- Implement QA/QC procedures in the project and ensure the entire quality checklist is effectively implemented.
- Inspect, test, and approve all materials and completed works for compliance with technical specifications.
- Ensure proper calibration of all testing equipment in the laboratories.
- Oversee storage, labelling, and organisation of all approved material samples.
- Prepare daily reports on materials, work approved, and inventories.
- Advise the resident engineer on materials applications and quality control.
- Entry Qualifications:
- Highway Engineer – 1 Post
- Entry Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, Transport Engineering, Structural Engineering, or equivalent qualifications from a recognised institution. Must be registered with ERB as a professional engineer.
- At least 7 years of working experience in a related field, with at least 3 projects of similar nature.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise the contractor on-site and manage force account operations.
- Manage work plans, quality control, and project contracts.
- Prepare monthly progress reports and process contractor invoices.
- Prepare and attend regular site meetings, ensuring proper documentation.
- Monitor the implementation of social and environmental impact mitigation measures in consultation with the environmental specialist of TANROADS.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the resident engineer.
- Entry Qualifications:
- Topographical Surveyor – 1 Post
- Entry Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or advanced diploma in land surveying, geomatics, or equivalent qualifications from a recognised institution. Must be registered by NCPS as a professional land surveyor.
- Postgraduate qualifications in surveying are an added advantage.
- At least 5 years of cumulative working experience in surveying for the design and/or construction of roads and bridges.
- Fluency in written and spoken Swahili and English is mandatory.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, and reports of works performed.
- Review survey data for accuracy, including measurements and calculations.
- Identify and locate all beacons and benchmarks for the contractor to set out and construct the works.
- Direct or conduct surveys to establish legal property boundaries.
- Record the results of surveys, including location, shape, contour, and dimensions.
- Coordinate findings with engineers, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Adjust surveying instruments for accuracy and develop criteria for survey methods and procedures.

- Works Inspector – Drainage/Structure – 1 Post
- Entry Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from a recognised institution. Must be registered by ERB as a graduate engineer.
- At least 3 years of working experience in the related field.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review all structural drawings and reports for conformity to the applicable standards and specifications.
- Inspect and approve materials and completed works for compliance with technical specifications.
- Prepare progress reports and keep daily records for drainage works.
- Maintain a site diary with the agreed format.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Entry Qualifications:
- Works Inspector – Road Works – 1 Post
- Entry Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualifications from a recognised institution. Must be registered by ERB as a graduate engineer.
- At least 3 years of working experience in roadworks inspection.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspect road works to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
- Oversee the implementation of QA/QC procedures.
- Keep daily records for contractor’s equipment and personnel.
- Supervise traffic flow control at the site.
- Prepare and submit daily progress reports.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Entry Qualifications:
- Assistant Land Surveyor – 1 Post
- Entry Qualifications:
- Diploma in Land Surveying or equivalent from a recognised institution with at least 3 years of working experience.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing sketches, maps, and reports of works performed.
- Help review survey data for accuracy.
- Record results of surveys, including location, contour, and dimensions.
- Assist with determining specifications for photographic equipment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Entry Qualifications:
- CAD Technician – 1 Post
- Entry Qualifications:
- Diploma in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, Land Surveying, or equivalent from a recognised institution.
- Certification in CAD training.
- At least 3 years of working experience in the related field.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare drawings and sketches in collaboration with other staff for road or bridge design.
- Liaise with highway engineers for improvements on road/bridge designs.

- ICT Officer – 1 Post

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualifications from a recognised institution. Must be registered with ERB as a professional engineer with a current practicing license.
- A postgraduate qualification in Bridge/Structural Engineering is an added advantage.
- At least 7 years of cumulative working experience in related supervision and/or design of construction of bridges/structures.

- Alternatively, an Intermediate Certificate (Module D) from NBAA or other qualifications recognised by NBAA.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare financial budgets and collect income.
- Prepare payments, financial reports, and record financial transactions.
- Maintain and update the Fixed Asset Register.
- Undertake annual stocktaking.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

- Diploma in Secretarial Studies or equivalent qualifications from recognised institutions.

- Handle office phone calls.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
