Established by the Executive Agencies Act Number 30 of 1997, Occupational Safety and Health Authority  is a Government Executive Agency. By enforcing the Occupational Safety and Health Act, No. 5 of 2003 through inspection of work places to identify hazards which can affect the health of workers, conducting medical examination to workers, providing education and conducting training in Occupational Safety and Health, it seeks to promote a good, sound and a healthy working environment.

Established as part of Government Program to Improve Service Provision to the public under the Executive Agencies Act No. 30 of the 1997, OSHA’s history begins in 2001. Established as a Government Agency, Occupational Safety and Health Authority controls occupational safety and health on Tanzania Mainland. Following set policies and guidelines, Occupational Safety and Health Authority is in charge of making sure workers operate in safer surroundings free from occupational diseases and accidents.

By means of efficient systems for the prevention of occupational diseases, ill health, accidents and damage to property, one can control, enable, enforce, and promote safe and health workplaces, so lowering the cost of production and enhancing the quality of living.
