Geita Gold Mining Ltd. (GGML) is Tanzania’s leading gold producer with a single operation in the Geita Region. The mine is situated in the Lake Victoria Gold Fields of Northwestern Tanzania, only about 120 km from Mwanza City and 20 km southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

Successful delivery of the planned maintenance regime, fulfilling its statutory obligations, whilst also providing a breakdown of reactive response harmonising both customer and organisational requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificate of Secondary School Education with VETA Trade Test Certificate Grade One/Level Three in Mechanical.
  • Diploma/Full Technician Certificate in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering.
  • Must possess a valid Tanzanian driving license.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 3 years of working experience in underground equipment with Sandvik & Caterpillar.

MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Good awareness and ability to manage safety, health, and environmental aspects in the workplace.
  • Be able to ensure the shift handover is done in a technical, professional manner for the incoming shift.
  • Must shift reports be well managed from start to end of shift on a daily basis?
  • Participates in the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of assigned staff; participates in the establishment of performance requirements and personal development targets and provides technical assistance and advice to assigned staff.
  • Provides day-to-day leadership and works with staff to ensure a high-performance, customer service-orientated work environment that supports achieving the department’s strategic plan, objectives, and values.
  • Assists with the development and administration of the department’s annual budget; directs the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, consultants, contractors, equipment, materials, and supplies; directs the monitoring of and approves expenditures; directs and implements adjustments as necessary to meet changing conditions.
  • Ensure all safety concerns are being shared and reported in a timely manner and actions are executed/closed.
  • Ensure the supervision is most effective to obtain proper maintenance to meet our target KPI.
  • Ensure all mechanics are coming to work as per their roster, and disciplinary action will be taken against absenteeism.
  • Ensure he/she always maintains effective communication with upper levels of management.
  • Ensure mechanics are arriving at work on time and even during lunchtime.
  • Be able to coach and train the subordinates based on the daily activities.
  • Performing checks and tests to verify the success of repair work.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Previous experience in a similar role or time spent working on mechanical components on the equipment.
  • Principles and techniques for working with groups and fostering effective team interaction to ensure teamwork is conducted smoothly.
  • Principles and practices of administration, including goal setting and procedure development and
  • Implementation, evaluation, and work standards.

PURPOSE OF TOE ROLE:

To support the Heavy Mining Equipment (HME) in ensuring GGML is in compliance with all government, internal, and insurance environmental requirements and to ensure that all securing-related projects are completed in a cost-effective manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificate of Secondary School Education with VETA Trade Test Certificate Grade One/Trade Test Level Three in Mechanic or its equivalent.
  • Full Technician Certificates (FTC)/Diploma in Automotive/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Must have a Tanzania driving licence and be able to drive in a mining environment.

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 4 years of working experience as a mechanic in the maintenance of BELL trucks, especially the 835L, Normet machines, R2900 loader, AD60, different models of mining CAT (Caterpillar machines), RH 40 & 170 excavators, and MT 4400AC.
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting and maintenance work on BELL and CAT equipment.

MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensure that the work is conducted in a safe working practice and procedures.
  • Conduct inspection on parked equipment’s to identify potential lube drainage/leaks to avoid risk of environmental contamination.
  • Execute all mining equipment maintenance tasks assigned following approved work procedures.
  • Ensure all tasks are performed safely according to GGM Safety Standards procedures.
  • Committing your best endeavours and full capability to work assigned to you by your manager.
  • Disclosing timely information to senior supervisors/managers when accountability cannot be met within limits or can be met with less time or resources than planned.
  • Ensure that the work is performed to the OEM’s up standard and ensure the quality of work to increase uptime after the equipment is released to production.
  • Be able to plan work before execution.
  • Carry out work as required or directed.
  • Meet work delivery deadlines to minimise the demand for resources without exceeding the required date for work completion.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be able to read and understand the maintenance manual book.
  • Ensure the quality of workmanship on all tasks that are executed.
  • Ensure the equipment release checklist is completed before the equipment is released.
  • Provide quality oversight for component rebuilds to ensure the components overhaul meets OEM as a minimum standard for overhaul.
