Barrick – High Voltage Electrician
- Regular attendance and participation to safety and toolbox meetings.
- Using state-of- the-art test equipment, in-depth protection relay study conducted by secondary injection proves functionality and accuracy of different protection elements.
- Checks for circuit continuity and loop impedance.
- Thorough review of auxiliary tools and protective gear.
- Measurements of insulating resistance against pertinent criteria.
- Implementing high voltage network switching.
- On digital or numerical relays, conduct external communications checks and relay self-test processes.
- Thorough examination of voltage transformer testing and protection and metering current transformers.
- Trip and alarm circuit functional tests to validate correct operation.
- On every relay, main injection tests ascertain effective current setting for internal faults and establish stability for external faults.
- After relay operation, interrogating fault event and disturbance records.
- Executing FAT’s and SAT’s on a variety of protection relays spanning GE, Siemens, ABB, SEL, Alstom and Schneider.
- Ongoing enhancement of performance and operational efficiency.
- Make sure daily switching follows Standard Operating Procedures for safe working conditions.
- Install, fix, and trace mistakes on HV Switch gears and protective relays.
- Install and maintain transformers correctly.
- Test MV/HV motors and generators using IR/PI.
- Review tools, document results, and finish assigned work in a timely and safe manner.
Qualification requirements
- Minimum of a Trade Certificate with corresponding experience or a Diploma in Electrical Engineering
- Extensive knowledge with HV/LV electric motors, transformers, statcoms; HV/MV switching and control systems.
- Terminations and hv/mv cable splicing.
- Excellent understanding of High/Low Voltage systems and Switchgear complete with safeguards.
- Reading single line diagrams and schematic electrical designs.
- Extraordinary field electrical maintenance, fault-finding and troubleshooting abilities.
- Knowledge about power generating plants.
- Certificate for high voltage switching
- Understanding of Australian Electrical Standards and Tanzanian Electrical Policies.
- Use Excel, Pronto/SAP/AutoCAD, Microsoft Office,
- HMI, PLC, and SCADA System experience.
Experience and competencies needed
- Must have three years or more of experience in a comparable position (High Voltage Electrician).
- Valid driving licence from Tanzanian nationality.
- Act on Mines Health & Safety Awareness.
- Experience in the underground or surface mining sector.

About The Team
North-west Tanzania’s Tarime section of the Mara region houses the North Mara gold mine. It lies twenty miles south of the Kenyan border and roughly 100 kilometres east of Lake Victoria.
In 2002 North Mara began commercial production. Comprising two deposits—Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit), the mine has an open pit and underground operation. Daily average capacity of the process facility is 8,000 tonnes of ore.
