Established on July 1, 2000, the semi-autonomous organisation known as Tanzania National Roads organisation (TANROADS) falls under the Ministry of Works It is in charge of building airports as well as daily operations of the trunk and regional road network of Tanzania’s mainland. Entering into a contract for the construction of Simiyu Bridge (150M) and its approach road (3KM) to bitumen standard, TANROADS, on behalf of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, On behalf of the Chief Executive, the Regional Manager’s Office TANROADS Mwanza plans to hire competent and qualified personnel to cover open positions on designated contracts for the aforementioned project in the following sectors:
A: Requirements for Entry:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a comparable qualification from an approved university.
- Must have a current practicing certificate and register with ERB as a Professional Engineer.
- One further advantage is a masters degree in civil engineering.
- At least ten years of combined knowledge in road and bridge construction designs, contract management and administration under FIDIC Conditions of Contract, and supervision.
- Must have worked in at least three (3) similar road building projects during the past ten years either as a resident engineer or in an equal position.
- One must be rather proficient in verbal and written English.
B: Roles and obligations:
- Head the site crew and handle all administrative and technical tasks on-site.
- Control project work plans and supervise the contractor at the site.
- Handle project contracts, quality control, and monthly progress reports preparation.
- Process contractor bills and handles payments.
- Create and show attendance at regular site meetings; draft meeting minutes.
- Under advice from the Environmental Specialist of TANROADS, track the application of Social and Environmental Impact mitigating strategies during the works’ construction.
- Record all pertinent information including reports, work diaries, communications, contractor instructions, test results, measurement and quantity computations, payment records, and whatever else.
- Attend to other tasks designated by the Project Manager (PM).
