Overview

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is presently soliciting suitable applicants to fill position of Lecturer in Behavioural Economics and Impact Evaluation.

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is the oldest and foremost public university in Tanzania. It is located 13 kilometers west of Dar es Salaam, encompassing 1,625 acres on the prominent hill known as Mlimani in Kiswahili. Established on 25th October 1961, it was known as the University College Dar es Salaam (UCD), an affiliate of the University of London. It was initially situated in the premises of the Tanganyika African National Union (TANU) on Lumumba Street, Dar es Salaam, from its inception until 1964, when it was relocated to its permanent site at the Hill.

At its founding, it comprised solely one faculty, the Faculty of Law, with 13 students, including one female, Julie Manning. In 1963, it became a constituent college of the University of East Africa, alongside Makerere University College in Uganda and Nairobi University College in Kenya. The institution of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) was officially established as a full-fledged institution on July 1, 1970, by Act No. 12 of 1970. UDSM launched its Vision 2061, a strategic framework outlining its future development.

Duties and Responsibilities

i. To give classes, tutorials, seminars, and practical instruction for both undergraduate and graduate programs;

ii. To set up, oversee, and grade undergraduate and graduate exams;

iii. To guide junior employees in important fields;

iv. To take part in or add to the development of the curriculum;

v. To help plan and run a variety of university activities;

vi. To carry out study and share the findings;

vii. To offer neighborhood and consulting services;

viii. To write textbooks and supplements;

ix. To oversee field practicums, special projects for students, master’s and doctoral theses and dissertations;

x. To attend or set up workshops, conferences, and symposiums; and

xi. Do any work for the university that is given to you by the right people

Qualification and Experience

  • PhD in the field of Behavioral Studies and Impact Evaluation with published research work in reputable international journals recognized by TCU and University of Dar es Salaam in the field of Behavioral Studies and Impact Evaluation and Master in Economics or Applied Economics or Public Policy and bachelor’s degree in economics or economics and Statistics.

Salary Scale: PUTS 3.3
