Job Summary
The role holder is responsible for coordinating the business intelligence, analytics, and data engineering activities at the bank. To provide strategic guidance, technical design, and quality assurance over the implementation of self-service analytics and data infrastructure implementation. Undertake regular research and development to introduce more efficient tools and ways of working.
Job Description
Key responsibilities and approximate time split:
Management Support
- Design and implement the business intelligence strategy and deliver the required insights needs.
- Ensuring alignment of business intelligence strategy with overall bank strategy.
- Support Head of Strategy and Data in design and implementation of data strategy
- Oversee collection and analysis of requirements for business intelligence and data-centred solutions.
- Provide tools to team members who collect requirements and perform data analysis to ensure a consistent approach to the delivery of value and quality.
- Prioritize business requirements and provide feedback to unit heads on priority listings
- Set up measurement and performance standards of BI solution by facilitating collection of metrics on all solutions developed for consolidation in the Data value tracker
- Facilitate learning and development of team members and bank staff on data literacy and use of bank BI solutions.
- Review planned and anticipated projects on monthly basis to ensure consistency in solution development and alignment to overall bank objectives communicated by Unit heads
- Continuously review analytics solutions in place to identify improvements and develop action plans
- Provide input on the design of business solutions by ensuring MI requirements are embedded into the project plans.
- Coach team members on how to interpret reports and analytical outputs and integrate subject matter to derive relevant insights.
- Ensure that structures are in place to collect both data needs and MI automation needs from the business through helpdesks and other structures for consistent engagement and ensure service within the agreed SLA.
- Agree on targets and take overall accountability for achievements of performance objectives for the department.
- Provide clear direction to team members on areas of the strategic plan and focus areas
- Embed high-performance culture in team by creating effective structures for distributed leadership, open feedback, and objective performance measurement
- Motivate staff and ensure efforts are recognised, and provide first level of escalation for staff grievances
- Facilitate the design of technical data and self-service architecture to support BI.
- Design best-in-class standards for solution development to be implemented by Analysts, Developers, and data engineers
- Ensure that core data governance standards as defined by Data Governance are implemented and maintained, including quality and privacy.

- Manage risk and control effectively by applying applicable risk frameworks and embedding a positive risk culture
- Understanding of your own role in the end-to-end processes in which you play a part, including applicable risks and controls.

- Report all risk events/incidents/issues using the defined process for your business area and help to understand why these happened and how to prevent them in the future.

Preferred Qualification
- A bachelor’s degree in IT/CS, engineering, data science, business analytics, or math-focused fields is preferred.
- Master’s degree in a related field is an added advantage.
Preferred Experience
- Minimum 8 years technical experience
- At least 5 years’ experience in a leadership role
- Experience in working within a large, complex organization with multiple stakeholders

Technical Competencies
- Visual Analytics – Ability to use visual intelligence tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, QlikView Power Query, and IDEA to create business solutions
- Query language proficiency—knowledge of query languages such as SQL, Hive, and Pig, and the ability to write efficient queries to extract, transform, and load data from relational and non-relational databases
- Scripting and object-orientated programming skills—Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, PHP, R, or Perl, and knowledge of object-orientated programming concepts.
- Data Warehouse management – Proficiency in creating views, tables, procedures, and dimensions and working with Kimball marts and tabular models to create reusable data artefacts in Warehouse
- Streaming Data Analytics – Proficiency in working with streaming data from KAFKA, Hadoop, and APIs to ingest, analyse and output data through API or into warehouses in support of data solutions
- Structured and unstructured Data analysis – Proficiency in analyzing data from both structured and unstructured data sources through use of Warehouse artefacts or APIs and NLP to develop solutions for business
- Agile Project management—Ability to manage projects and develop technology solutions in Agile way and using agile tools to monitor progress
- Workflow data analysis—Ability to use workflow-based data tools such as Knime, Alteryx, and SSIS for data blending, cleansing, analysis, and the creation of data pipelines and algorithms in support of business solutions
- Cloud computing experience—Experience with cloud offerings such as AWS, Azure, and GCP, and the ability to set up, manage, and optimise cloud-based data infrastructure and analytics solutions.
- Big data engineering tools – Ability to work with Apache Spark, Hadoop, Impala, Hive, Hue, and DataBricks to create and maintain warehouse and data pipelines
